Short Biographies

Katie Lavers - Director, Producer

Katie Lavers trained in Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts and the Royal College of Art (UK) She has an MA in Visual Arts. Her multi-artform installations and multi-media work have been exhibited nationally and internationally in the UK and Canada.

Katie is co-founder and producer of Skadada and SYRC. She is Skadada’s Visual Director and has created works for Major Festivals in Australia and Asia, as well as large scale events and opening ceremonies. Katie directed Skadada’s highly acclaimed work Electronic Big Top for the Sydney and Perth Festivals, and the 4th China Shanghai International Arts Festival.

Katie has been artist in residence in many arts centres throughout Australia including the WA Academy of Performing Arts, Brisbane Powerhouse and Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts. She was artist in residence with the Daksha Seth Dance Company in Kerala (India) developing work for their internationally touring production Bu-Kham.
Katie was Associate Director on the award winning Black Swan production Plainsong for the Perth International Arts Festival.


Jon Burtt - Director, Choreographer, Performer

Jon Burtt is highly regarded as an innovative and accomplished director and choreographer. After graduating from the London Contemporary Dance School Jon returned to Australia to perform with many of the leading dance companies including; Nanette Hassall’s Danceworks, One Extra, Human Veins, Tasdance and The Chrissie Parrott Dance Company in Western Australia.

Jon is a founder, choreographer and director of Skadada. Jon’s works for Skadada have toured internationally to India, China, Taiwan. Jon has created critically acclaimed works for Skadada for many of the major festivals in Australia including the Perth International Arts Festival, and the Sydney Festival.

Jon is director of SYRC, Skadada’s highly successful elite aerial training program for young people. This troupe of young performers is proof of Jon's extraordinary ability as a teacher to inspire and transform young people into world class performers.

Jon was awarded an ArtsWA Performing Arts Fellowship and also received an Asialink Fellowship as resident choreographer at the Centre of Performing Arts in Mumbai, India. Jon also lectures at West Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
